Invisible Strings
I don’t know if I believe in fate
Or divine intervention
Or synchronicity
But sometimes I wonder…
Could there be some grand puppetmaster?
A clandestine playwright penning the script?
I don’t know,
It’s just so pretty to believe
That maybe we’re all part of something
Chaotic
Cosmic
And breathtaking…
Living threads
Woven together
Into the fabric of time and space
Each one of us
Holding the other
Lest we U
N
R
A
V
E
L…
Could it be?
Souls magnetized
Energetically intertwined
In ways beyond our wildest D r E a M s
Wouldn’t that be something?
Whether it’s truth or just perception,
All I know is this:
I have carried great pain
Great heartbreak
And great shame
Yet, somehow, my path always leads back to
Greater
LOVE
Maybe
It doesn’t need to make sense
Maybe
It’s simply destiny
We’re all tethered
By
Invisible strings
I have no proof
No irrefutable evidence
Other than this:
Against all odds, I found you
You found me
And perhaps, this is how it was meant to beMain Character Energy
Ever since I was little, I’ve had a lot to say
Everything speaks to me
The rustle of leaves on a breeze
The twinkling of stars in the twilight
The fears my mother tried to hide
But while everything and everyone
Spoke to me
No one wanted to listen
I was too much
An unfettered drama queen
A rebel witch
Jezebel spirit stealing hearts
Voices like mine
They aren’t pretty
They aren’t fluffy
They aren’t palatable
Mine is like a Sour Patch Kid
Tart before the sweet
A jalapeno margarita with a salt rim
Bourbon on the rocks
But I water it down
Because who wants to hear from
Little old me
I played Best Supporting Actress for so long
I forgot to cheer myself on
All this time, I was afraid of failure
When the real monster under my bed
Was the thought of SUCCESS
Maybe what scares me the most
Are the people waiting in the wings
Waiting to applaud my grand debut
Turns out that all along
The main character was me
Where Inspiration Hides
My inspiration hides
In the magic of the mundane
In the smell of coffee in the morning
In grocery store flowers wilting on the kitchen windowsill
In the soft dimples that bracket my son’s smile
In the brush of my husband’s lips against mine
In the sound of two hearts
Beating
As
One
Inspiration lives in the knots in the hardwoods
Each plank uniform, but distinct
Inspiration is the smell before the rain
The calm before the storm
The burn in my muscles when I lift heavy things
The cocoon for my aching joints
When all I can do is lay in bed
It finds me
In a stranger’s smile
In random shower thoughts
In solo car karaoke sessions
But most of all
Inspiration flows from the hearts
Of all the creatives around me
Spirits I’ve only just met
I now call kindredThese three poems were written during my first-ever writing retreat. They each give a glimpse into how I’ve grown as a writer over the years, and how I’ve learned to express myself through prose and stories.
About The Author
I am a queer, neurodivergent, chronically ill writer fueled by caffeine and sappy rom-coms. My passion is writing genre-blending fiction and reflective poetry. I’m currently on the road to publishing my first full-length novel, and I also publish serialized fiction, standalone stories, and poems on my Substack. When I’m not writing, I’m busy living my best life with my husband, kids, and pets. You can usually find me curled up with a good book, one of my many crafting endeavors, or watching anime.
We believe poetry is an act of attention—both in the writing and the reading. This cabin gathers poems shaped by intention rather than urgency. Thank you for reading in a way that honours the work.
